Dragon Prince VFX Concept

I designed the projectile first. It required a lot of experimentation since moon magic had plenty of distinct forms/colors it could take.

The AoE spell was more straightforward to design since I figured out how moon magic looked like during the projectile design. It saved time and iterations having a base look down but I still wanted to give the AoE its own flavor, hence the flower petals.

I spent a good day just researching the IP and the way moon magic works in the universe. Made a few notes about ideas and some really quick 5-10 minute down and dirty sketches to get ideas flowing.

Dragon Prince VFX Concept

This was done for an art test set in the Dragon Prince world (for a studio unrelated to the IP) that required me to design a couple VFX designs for magic spells chosen from 3 sources: sun, moon, or dark. The first was a projectile spell broken down into 3 parts: cast, projectile, and impact. It also required me to design an Area of Effect spell. I was able to showcase some of my environment design as well since according to my research, moon magic relies on a lot of environmental and prop magic. Overall it was a huge learning experience and one I was extremely excited to design!
